Fascinating about GK Organic Farm

Hi everyone,

I am currently doing my volunteer program in GK Organic Farm. I am very happy to be given this opportunity to write something about GK farm. ^_^

When we talk about organic farming, what always come to your mind? Organic farming is a farming method that does not use any chemicals to produce crop. This is true and correct but I would like to talk about even more surprising things that can be found in GK Organic Farm.

As we know, changes in weather are one of the factors that affect the production of crops. Malaysia is currently undergo hot season. Thus, here in GK farm had experienced no rainfall for almost 50 days. Luckily we are still being able to produce vegetables for the market. =)

Surprisingly this hot season had brought us a very good production of corn in GK farm. We are able to get an average weight of 400 g to 500 g per corn. In addition, the texture and sweetness of the corn is of high quality. We even ate the corn uncooked.

The BIG pumpkin

Besides that, you can even found such a big pumpkin with an average weight of 5 kg in GK farm. We spend more than a week to finish up the whole pumpkin. We used it to make pumpkin soup, roasted pumpkin and etc. Of course the taste is fabulous and this is an organic pumpkin. =D

Pumpkin soup

Wild Green Salad

Let me introduce you another special dishes found in GK Organic Farm which is wild green salad. If you see from the photo, it seems like the normal green salad. I know there are many types of salad that you can make such as Caesar salad, fruit salad, chicken salad, tofu salad and many others salad. Have you try a salad mix with flower petals? Some of the ingredients in this salad are flower petals of Hibiscus, water spinach, Marigold, Rose, and other weeds leaves too. Not only the taste is delicious, the colour combination of this salad looks good too.

Another interesting thing that you can find in GK farm is the diversity of living things especially insect. Some of the insects found here is not easily been found anywhere.

Have you seen such big caterpillar with the length of almost 6cm?

Have you seen such colorful caterpillar?

Have you seen the pupae of fruitfly?

Have you seen the transition stage of caterpillar turning into pupae?

I cannot guarantee that you will be able to see this in GK farm all the time. If you want to find out more about GK Organic Farm, do come visit us!!! Do remember to make early reservation. =)

Feel the Grounding, Feel the 'Qi'

Walking barefooted in the farm has always been the culture in GK Organic Farm.  Knowing the health benefits associated with this, most visitors are now looking forward to the new experience here for a free foot massage to discharge the static electricity accumulated in the body.

While most people mostly extend their hands for a hand shake when meeting friends, at GK the best way to say hello is perhaps to use your feet and say hello to our mother earth.  Touch the ground, feel the soil and feel the energy that flows through our body.

This year, the culture continues... On top of that, we have also added two new elements ~ planting & harvesting activities with the hope to give you a more wholesome experience.

First, we learn the art of barefoot walking.  "Walk like a cat, not like an elephant!" as what Mr Gan always like to share. That way, we can minimize possible injuries and at the same time increase our senses and awareness level.  This is especially true when many of us, city folks or even 'orang kampung' alike (village folks) are mostly on shoes these days.  Gone were the days when shoes are only worn for functional purpose.

I remember those time back in my Kampung, shoes were not part of our routine.  We were used to walking barefoot to the neighbourhood.  And if we did (with our shoes on), it will mostly ended up parking at our neighbour's house or landed somewhere at the park. It's just funny (^_^)

And today, I can only see this happening in GK.  At first, some people were reluctant to part with their shoes (it's becoming part of them), and then at the end of the programme, before they leave, we will notice one or two walking back barefooted totally forgotten about their shoes, not until they were reminded.

Now, coming to think of it, it just make sense that when we get comfortable with our body, we tend to forget what we used to think as our basic needs, in this case, the shoes lost its function.

Who cares about the shoes when we can comfortably step on the soil and reconnect with our mother earth. Those are nostalgia, and we are glad that we are still seeing these till today, at least at GK Organic Farm.

Coming back to the hands-on activities, we truly hope that you will still be able to enjoy as much as you do.  Some may feel reluctant at first...

"Who wants to get their hands dirty when we have the food nicely laid on the table for us?" Exactly, that's the point, isn't it time for us to go back to the source before it's too late.  Real food, real people... let us go back the basic and feel our grounding.  You will be surprised to feel the 'qi' flowing from the soil...

VISITOR INFORMATION

GK Organic Farm is situated in the remote area and hence there’s no public transportation. You are encouraged to car pool as parking space is limited. Please look for the parking signage to park your car.

BY GPS...

  • Set Bukit Unggul Golf & Country Club as the landmark.
  • Enter from Kampung Sungai Buah (just next to the Bukit Unggul Golf & Country Club),  drive another 3.8km in a quiet countryside.
  • You will cross 11 bumpers, slow down & you will see a very small signage planted on your left.
  • Turn in and go straight about 200 meters, drive in from the gate & park at the designated parking area.

Have a safe journey! See ya...
Warm Reminder Please don't just turn up on the gate. Pre-booking is required.

About Us

About GK
GK Organic Farm is located near Bangi, about 40km south of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 1994, GK has been growing organic vegetables, fruits and herbs using our homemade compost and fertilizers.

At GK Organic Farm, we believe that the best food is …as Nature Intended. We INSIST:

No Outside Compost
No Green House
No Pest but Insects

Farm Visit
We believe that it is important for anyone who eats our vegetables to know WHO we are, HOW we grow and more significantly, WHY we do so. The farm visit conducted every weekend is to promote awareness amongst the general public and most importantly to provide an organic setup for educational institutions or even companies an option to conduct their activities outside of classroom or office setup.

We strongly believe that the best way to know us is to visit us at least once, talk to us, have a drink or lunch with us.

Organic Vegetable Luncheon
Yes, at GK FARMYARD KITCHEN, you can enjoy farm-fresh organic vegetables prepared in a light and healthy country style, and served in a warm & at-home atmosphere.

The menu varies depending on the day’s harvest and chef’s inspiration.  Fresh vegetables & fruits, including herbs, come from our organic farm. NO meat, no seafood, no eggs & artificial ‘mock-meat’.  And of-course, MSG free, too.
